YOUR RESPONSABILITIES
General
Oversee environmental assessments for our hydro projects in Africa, from site selection and pre-feasibility to construction and operation.
Advise the internal development team on Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs), and recommend preventive and corrective mitigation measures.
Work closely with environmental consultants on critical issues.
Supervise consultants and ensure quality and timeliness of deliverables.
Ensure smooth coordination with project teams.
Ensure the compliant implementation of environmental and social guidelines during the project implementation phases.
Participate in the design of our hydro projects, with a focus on the protection of biodiversity.
Support preliminary studies and due diligence on environmental and social aspects.
Propose innovations to improve our approaches to sustainable development.
Resettlement Project
Develop and implement Resettlement Action Plans (RAPs) in line with international standards, including those of the World Bank, IFC, and other donors.
Supervise resettlement studies, including census of affected populations, inventory of impacted assets, and assessment of economic losses.
Collaborate with stakeholders, including local communities, government authorities, and NGOs, to ensure inclusive consultation and participation throughout the process.
Establish grievance management mechanisms to address the concerns of affected communities.
Monitor and evaluate the social and economic impacts of post-settlement resettlement programs, ensuring that the living conditions of displaced populations are improved or at least restored.
Prepare and submit regular reports on the progress of resettlement activities and key performance indicators.
Identify the risks associated with resettlement and propose appropriate mitigation measures.
ESG Governance
Oversee environmental and social assessments (SEA) at all stages of projects, ensuring compliance with international standards.
Advise the internal team and coordinate the work of consultants to ensure the quality of ESG deliverables.
Integrate biodiversity and sustainability issues into the design of water projects.
Monitor the implementation of Environmental and Social Management Plans (ESMPs) and community commitments.
Identify innovations to strengthen the ESG performance of projects.
YOUR PROFILE
EDUCATION
Bac+5 (Specialized Master's degree, business / engineering school, etc.) in the field of sustainable development, environmental project management or environmental sciences.
experience
Minimum of 5 years in an environmental design office.
Experience on resettlement projects
Experience in international projects.
Collaborations with international financial institutions (AFD, AFDB, EBRD).
Experience in hydroelectric projects would be a plus.
COMPUTER TOOLS
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (including Word, VBA), Autocad, QGIS, Python.
LANGUAGES
Fluent English (written and oral) essential.
